Integrating the wisdom of awareness
Weds Oct 14th 7pm – Sun 18th 1pm, 2020
UPDATE This course is now virtual using Zoom with home-based exercises.
Meditation can be seen as a process of exploring our mind’s true nature; understanding what lies beneath our worries, internal chatter, self-image and preferences. Once discovered, the ground of mind - naked awareness - allow us to see through the insubstantiality of thoughts and perceptions.
So the first stage is to discover this ground of mind; in retreat there is the opportunity to allows the glimpses to settle into full awareness of...awareness; and finally we need to explore how to maintain this in mind as we go about our daily business.
After an orientation on Wednesday evening, the retreat will include tranquillity meditation exercises with T’ai Ji practice, and with quiet times for personal practice inside and outside. The T'ai Ji sessions are pre-recorded so you can access this resource, along with the Zoom sessions, during and after the retreat.
All sessions will be run by Zoom and recorded to watch or re-watch later. All recordings will be put on a web page, with additional guided meditations and notes.
As this is a home-based retreat, it is designed to fit around daily activities and work/home commitments. You'll be integrating the practice right into daily life. If you miss some sessions just catch up later.
Simon will lead the retreat and the meditation sessions, with T’ai Ji sessions from Ad (pre-recorded). This retreat is designed for those with prior experience of meditation and mindfulness (check with me if you need to).
Whilst his teaching is secular, Simon has been a committed meditation practitioner in the Buddhist tradition for over 20 years, and was ordained in 2017. He continues to study the subject intensively, and has been teaching since 2011, with a focus on nature of mind.
Ad started his T’ai-Ji training in 1975 and has worked with Chungliang Al Huang since 1991. His approach is a unique blend of mindfulness and T’ai-Ji, evolved over 30 years of meditation teaching both in the UK and abroad.
